SEDOLs can be reused after the security has been dead for 7 years (only exception are Traded Options that can be reused after 1 year.) In practice we try to avoid resuing SEDOLs.

Not sure what you mean by SEDOL having 6 digits as it is a 7 digit number with the 7th digit acting as a check digit.
