Sedol numbers for securities officially listed on the London Stock Exchange or our AIM market are given a SEDOL during the listing process. Sedol numbers for all other securities are only allocated on request. Anyone can request a SEDOL provided they supply the relevant information and the security appears in an information source we recognise generally speaking a Stock Exchange Official List. Multiple or secondary SEDOLs are only ever allocated on request so if a security was listed on London and on New York we would allocate the London line and on request a New York SEDOL.

In order to distinguish a primary SEDOL from a multiple SEDOL you would need to take our Security Event field which has a value of ML for Multiple Listed.

Will send the check digit calculation seperately.
